Nicole's Bedroom Makeover

When my precious niece, Nicole, asked me to help create her vision for her room, I was flattered and excited. The inspiration came from some fabulous painted scroll work she photographed at a theater, a pillow (see second photo), and the animal print comforter. Using these inspiration pieces, we came up with an end result as fabulous as Nicole is. (OK, not quite as fabulous as she is, but close.)

This little pillow was the source of the color on the wall.

These white pillows and their matching comforter are gorgeous but they didn't blend very well. I found buttons that matched the colors of our inspiration pillow and sewed them to the center of each of the little poofs to bring them together with our inspiration pillow.

Bringing all of our inspirations together-- the pillow and the scrolls-- Nicole base coated these canvases in a dark brown which I then painted with flowers and gold scrolls. The flower colors come from the pillow.

The canvases, with the scroll work I painted in brown, accented in gold, create an entire wall of art above the bed, bringing all of the colors and design elements together.

These pretty white curtains needed a little help to blend a bit better also. I made tie backs from a brown satin ribbon with a thinner white organdy ribbon attached down the center. I then added the same buttons that I used on the white pillow, all along the length of the white organdy ribbon.

They seemed like they could still use something more so I added the bows. This bow was too small, though. I made bigger ones which you can see in the first photo, above. Now these simple white curtains match all the colors in the room.

Nicole wanted a big "N" on her wall in brown and gold, so her Mom and I painted this papier mache "N" with the same brown paint as in the canvases and scrolls. I then edge painted it in gold.

Nicole wanted a bit more scroll work in the room and decided she'd like just a bit more over her entry door.

I didn't photograph it on its own, but you can see the very large collage frame that Allison (Nicole's Mom, my sister)bought, hanging on the wall. It had a pewter frame. Allison and I painted it brown and streaked it with gold. Now Nicole can fill it with photos.

What do you think of Nicole's room makeover?

Private Sewing Lessons

Many have asked if I will do private sewing lessons in their home or mine. Indeed, I do. The rate is $25 for one hour or $45 for two hours. I usually do them in my home, but will consider coming to you if you are not too far and have your own machine. You can bring your own machine to my house (which is preferable, if you have one) or I have two available. If you would like to get on my calendar for a private class, please call 281-338-0960 or email me at maureen@maureenmakesit.com
