Sew Something Purple

Pin It I just finished September's Vogue and am thrilled with the colors and designs that are in for fall, especially purple! Purple is everywhere. Lucky for me, I look good in purple. Although I haven't resumed sewing yet, I've got visions of a royal purple jacket for myself. I also noticed a lot of fur, especially on cuffs (faux for me). so I'm thinking a purple jacket with black faux fur cuffs. I love fur collars and cuffs! I'm so happy to see them.

In addition to purple, fall brings many jewel tones (that I am in love with) and a lot of green in classic and some unusual shades, especially in handbags. There's a great one by Ivanka Trump (I didn't even realize she had a line) that I saw in another fashion magazine that is amazing. It's called the Ella frame satchel. My daughter, Jackie, found it at  Dillards.

There's also quite a bit of Mad Men inspiration showing up in fashion right now too. Banana Republic even has a Mad Men line. The 60s are back and I can't say I mind. (This image is from September's Vogue).

Are you sewing for fall yet? What's on your "to make" list? And if you don't have time or don't know how to sew, is there something you've got your eye on for fall?

Update: On the road to recovery

Pin It I'm a bit over two weeks past my spine surgery and doing great. I suppose we never heal as quickly as we'd like, but I'm thankful for my daily improvements. I've regained a substantial amount of the strength in my leg. I'm able to climb stairs (a bit shaky, but at least I got to see my sewing machines after a 2 week separation!). The surgery site staples and stitches were to be removed today but only the staples were taken out. The stitches will remain for one more week.

My target "back to work" date is 9/1 "with limitations." I'll start physical therapy on Friday and am looking forward to seeing how much it will help me progress. The nerves in my spine were compressed such that I have partial paralysis in my leg which is expected to be permanent. (It's been very depressing to wrap my mind around that). The good news, though, is that with a lot of exercise and dedication, I should be able to strengthen the leg enough that I can still do most things.

I'm going to try to drive tomorrow. I'll have to let you know how that goes.

Thank you so much for the prayers and good wishes. They have meant so much to me. I hope you'll keep them coming.

8/17 Update: I can drive!!! That's a huge milestone. I wouldn't get out on the freeway because my physical mobility is a little slow, but for every day local driving, I think I'm good to go now. Woohoo!
