Preferred days and time of day for you lessons:
In the first sewing class, you'll be given a very thorough lesson on the ins and outs of your sewing machine and then I'll teach you how to make a pillowcase. (If you already know how to sew, I'll work with you to tailor classes to your specific needs and interests.) For a beginner, it's pretty exciting to see how well you're going to be sewing right off the bat. You'll learn different stitches, sewing terminology, some characteristics of fabric, pinning, cutting, measuring, and basic construction. You'll be so impressed with how great your first sewing project turns out. I'll also try to get an idea of what your sewing goals are, what types of things you might like to sew in the future, and I'll make some
recommendations of projects to match your experience as you progress.
To make the pillowcase, you'll need two fabrics. Stick with cottons, of which you'll have tons of variety. Here's everything you'll want to bring with you:
* 2/3 yard of fabric for the main part of the pillowcase
* 1/4 yard of another contrasting or complimentary fabric for the band
* One spool of all-purpose thread to match both fabrics (such as
Coats & Clark Dual Duty all purpose thread, available at Joann,
Hancock, Hobby Lobby, etc. )
* Scissors
* Tape measure (optional)
* Straight pins, preferably with a ball head but any kind will work
* Sewing machine with all feet, attachments, and manual**
* At least one empty bobbin**
(**If you do not have a machine, I have one you can use. You won't
need a bobbin if you use my machine. Please let me know in advance if
you, or any member of your group, will need a machine or if you'd like to buy your supplies from me.)
If you need to cancel for any reason, 24 hours advance notice is greatly appreciated. Since lessons are often scheduled back to back, I generally can not start your lesson before your appointment time. If you are late, unfortunately, I can not go past your scheduled time so the two hour clock must start at your appointment time and end two hours later.
Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions at all.
Decorative painting and craft classes are also available. Sewing and painting lessons for age 8 through adult. Craft classes for age 5 through adult. Parties for ages 5 through adult.
